How to create a Friend ID (FID)
Instructions
Step 1: Navigate to this link: https://wsu.edu/fid
· Click “Create your Friend ID” as shown below.
Step 2: Fill out the application with your information. Verify all the information is accurate as it will be used throughout your application.
Step 3: In the email that you entered for your application, you will be given a TANK (12-digit number) used to begin the process.
Step 4: Navigate to the following link: https://wsu.edu/accountcreation and enter your TANK number. You will be prompted to enter an email address to have your PIN (6-digit number) sent too.
Step 5: Go back to the email that you submitted, and locate your PIN number. You will be asked in the email to enter your PIN on the creation screen found within the email.
Step 6: Once entered, you will be guided through creating your Network ID. Your ID will be your personal email address that you have been using.
Step 7: Complete the process by creating a password and a secret question. Please note that the minimum password strength is “Good”.
Side-Information:
"TANK" is a 12-19 digit number that is used only once in the creation of your WSU Friend ID (NID).
"PIN" is a 6 digit number that also is used only once during the FID creation process to verify your identity.
"WSU ID number" is an 8-9 digit number that you will have for life. Once the FID has been created, you may continue to be asked for this number to identify who you are. Whereas the TANK and PIN will never be used again once the FID is created. It is sometimes referred to as a student number or user number, but is always referenced to as a number.
"WSU Friend ID (FID)" is an electronic identity that you can use on the internet, to identify who you are to the system.
